TWO YOUNG MOYOLA ANGLING CLUB MEMBERS PREVENT NEAR FATAL DROWNING

While on a day trip fishing to the River Mourne, two young members of Moyola Angling Club reacted swiftly and potentially saved a mans life when they saw him fall into the water. It took place at an area known as Paddies Stream, where Matthew Doyle and Joseph Spiers witnessed a man enter the river. The two young local anglers did not hesitate for a second and were on the scene, pulling the man to safety. Putting the near fatal event to one side, both continued their fishing outing. However, that is far from the case as,  both Matthew and Joseph have been praised and thanked for their heroic act. Despite their young years, both knew instinctively how to react, and this is a lot to do with the nurturing, safety, instruction, experience and duty of care gained at the Moyola club. Let the powers that be acknowledge the brave act of Matthew and Joseph, also the Moyola Angling Club, whose instruction around safety on water, probably proved life saving in this particular incident!
This helps to highlight the importance of the courses the Ulster Angling Federation run in conjunction with their member clubs. Currently we are also putting together an Angling Awards courses which we hope will encourage more young people into the sport, there will also be a safety aspect to these courses. The UAF are very proud of the actions of these young anglers.
